Celebrating 150 Years of the Presentation Sisters in Lucan

St. Joseph’s College held a very special evening on Tuesday 10th October to celebrate 150 Years of the Presentation Sisters in Lucan. We were delighted to have many of the Sisters return to us for the occasion, Sr. Rosario and Sr. Frances Crowe included. The evening began with the planting of an oak tree, remembering how the acorn is a symbol of the Presentation Sisters, planting roots in the community and growing from strength to strength. Many speakers on the night recalled the dedication, devotion and tireless efforts of the Sisters to provide a well-rounded holistic education for the girls of Lucan and beyond over the last two centuries. There were many fond memories shared of the great efforts involved in the setting up of Scoil Mhuire and St. Joseph’s College and the values of the Presentation Order, still very evident in all aspects of the two schools today. There was a great attendance of past & present teachers, principals, trustees, members of the local ICA, student council and staff. As we approach the tercentenary (300th Anniversary) of Nano Nagle in 2018, there is no doubt that the values, vision and dedication she had to educating the young and those in need, has lived on through the Sisters in Lucan and can be strongly felt today. We thank the Sisters for all their commitment and wish them many years of good health in the future.
