Welcome to St Joseph’s College Lucan, a vibrant and inclusive community of learning and of faith. We are a Catholic school community for girls, founded by the Presentation Sisters, and under the trusteeship of CEIST. The holistic development of your daughter in a supportive atmosphere is our central educational goal. As a CEIST school our core values are:
- Promoting spiritual and human development
- Achieving quality in teaching and learning
- Showing respect for every person
- Creating community
- Being just and responsible
Our highly professional and progressive staff are committed to educational excellence in a way which meets the varying needs of a diverse student body. A wide variety of subjects, complemented by a rich extracurricular life makes our school a happy, successful and healthy environment for young girls.
We set high expectations for each student to achieve her full potential, to be creative, and to experience curiosity and joy in her learning. We have a long tradition of academic achievement. Almost all of our students transfer to Third Level, and progress forward into rewarding careers which make a valuable contribution to society.
There is a strong culture of partnership among all members of the school community, which contributes to a dynamic, innovative and modern school. Parents are invited to participate in the life of the school through our Parents’ Association and various other aspects of school life. In addition, the Senior Leadership Team is fully supported by a highly committed Board of Management and an effective in-school Middle Management Team, and Student Support Team.
Incoming First Years are supported by a pastoral structure comprising of the Year Head, Class Tutor, Cinnire Team, and Guidance Counsellors. We also endeavour to link closely with local primary schools to ensure a smooth and happy transition to secondary school.
The student voice in the school is articulated through a strong and confident Student Council. A robust anti-bullying policy ensures a safe and positive school experience for students. The dignity of, and respect for, the person is the hallmark of all relationships in St Joseph's College.
We have introduced teaching and assessment approaches which ensure students achieve independence of mind, and deep understanding in their various subjects. Teaching students how to learn and enabling them to recognise their learning strengths is a fundamental aspect of classroom activities. Following the Junior Cycle, all students complete Transition Year and consequently develop the maturity, confidence, skills and qualities for life and further education. At Senior Cycle, students complete the Leaving Certificate Established and some also have the option of completing the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP).
We are committed to creating a centre of excellence for your daughter and we prioritise the diverse needs of the students in all of our decisions and actions.
We look forward to the future with energy, hope, and enthusiasm and are particularly excited about the new extension to our school building which has recently been completed.
I hope you enjoy your exploration of our website.
